When Doreen Marcotte was little, she would spend hours having both her mother and her grandmother read to her. And as time passed and she got older, she found that it was easy to use her imagination to picture what was happening on the pages. When she began reading aloud, people would tell her what a lovely voice she had, and that lit a little spark.
When she began her career as a registered nurse, she used the skills from her education classes and her already existing talent for reading to master the tricky words in medical narration. Her caring nature brought compassion and warmth to her words. And still, she heard how patients liked her voice, how patients loved to listen to her.
One day, she read a book where the heroine was a voice actor. The idea lit a spark in her, and soon she was taking a webinar on voice over careers, and then returning to school a second time, in pursuit of a new career.
When she is not working, she does volunteer recordings for Librivox, where she has been called both ‘perfect’ and ‘delightful’.
For fun, you can find her on her snowmobile in the mountains, or scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean or river rafting on the local rivers. She also creates fabric art, and makes quilts for gifts and raffles… and still loves to read – often out loud to her children and grandkids. They make their home in the Pacific Northwest.
And now, Doreen Marcotte would love to make her mark on your words.
